The Commission has issued a retail licence to the Department of Defence to sell electricity.

The Commission, with the Minister's approval, has issued a network licence exemption to the Department of Defence, to own and operate an electricity network with respect to electricity network infrastructure located within Robertson Barracks and RAAF Darwin.

The Commission received an application from the Commonwealth of Australia, represented by the Department of Defence, for a licence to sell electricity in accordance with section 15 of the Electricity Reform Act 2000 and an exemption from the requirement to hold a licence to operate an electricity network in accordance with Section 87 of the Electricity Reform Act 2000.

The Department of Defence is seeking to sell surplus electricity generated by Assure Energy Asset Pty Ltd from behind the meter solar PV generation at Robertson Barracks and RAAF Base Darwin to electricity entities holding a retail licence.

The Commission undertook stakeholder consultation and did not receive any submissions in relation to the application.
