  • Revocation of Electricity Pricing Order for Prescribed Class (750MWh to 2GWh) Contestable Customers in Darwin-Katherine (effective 1 August 2015)
31 Jul 2015

Revocation of Electricity Pricing Order for Prescribed Class (750MWh to 2GWh) Contestable Customers in Darwin-Katherine (effective 1 August 2015)

Recognising that some customers would experience a significant price shock as they moved from the regulated non-contestable tariff to a cost-reflective contestable tariff, the Territory Government chose to intervene in the competition process to allow for the staged movement to cost-reflective prices. The Regulatory Minister issued an Electricity Pricing Order applying to contestable customers (who use between 750MWh and 2GWh of electricity per annum) in December 2014 applying to the period from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2015.

In July 2015, the Minister revoked the pricing order to the extent that it applies to customers of those classes in the Darwin-Katherine Region with effect on and from 1 August 2015.

The Pricing Order from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2015 will continue to apply to customers outside of the Darwin-Katherine Region as defined in Schedule 2 to the National Electricity (Northern Territory) (National Uniform Legislation) Act.
