Retail licence suspended – QEnergy Limited
The Commission has decided pursuant to section 36 of the Electricity Reform Act 2000 to suspend QEnergy Limited’s retail licence with effect from 23 January 2023.
QEnergy Limited’s retail licence was issued by the Commission in 2011 under Part 3 of the Electricity Reform Act 2000. The licence allows QEnergy Limited to trade in electricity and sell and retail electricity to customers in Darwin, Katherine, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek in accordance with the terms and conditions of the licence.
The conditions that QEnergy Limited must fulfil for the licence suspension to be lifted are that it must demonstrate to the Commission’s satisfaction that it has:
- no outstanding debts in the Northern Territory
- a wholesale electricity supply agreement in place with a licensed generator
- the financial, technical and human resources available to operate under its retail licence, including that it will be able to meet reasonably foreseeable obligations for the sale of electricity.
QEnergy has advised the Commission that it currently has no customers in the Territory. The Commission has updated its licence register to reflect the licence suspension.
