  • New licensing arrangements for small scale generation, small scale generation power purchase agreements, virtual power plants and electric vehicle charging stations
25 Nov 2024

New licensing arrangements for small scale generation, small scale generation power purchase agreements, virtual power plants and electric vehicle charging stations

The Commission has granted four new class exemptions relating to small scale generation (SSG) operations, SSG power purchase agreements, virtual power plants (VPP) and electric vehicle charging stations and revoked the small scale renewable energy operations exemption (this is replaced by the SSG operations exemption).

Parties wishing to be exempt from the requirement to hold an electricity supply licence(s) must comply with the conditions of the relevant exemption. For the SSG power purchase agreements and VPP exemptions, this includes a requirement to register the proposed operations with the Commission.

Further information on the exemptions can be found in the Section 87 of the Electricity Reform Act 2000 - Class exemptions - Information sheet and on the Electricity licensing webpage.
